It’s that time of year again, and as a homeschooling mother, I’m dreaming up our next school year. Curriculum, yes, but also the planner I’ll be using so that I can be most organized.
Rather than buy a new planner, I am repurposing a planner I was gifted last summer.
If you’re working with…
- a tight budget
- have financial goals
- or simply want to be a better steward
…this project is for you!
When I was gifted this planner, I was already using a planner for our new school year. I loved it so much that I attempted to use it for another purpose, but I wasn’t consistent with it and using this planner became temporarily obsolete.
Nonetheless, this beautiful planner was still a fixture on my desk where I could admire it.
Being about a month out from the end of our current school year, I thought about repurposing this beautiful planner to be ready and current for the upcoming school year.
Actually, I was reminded that I had done this with a planner for this last school year. Out of necessity and financial hardship, I was only able to afford an out-of-date planner. It was $.50 at a local freight (overstock) store in our area. It fit the bill! I decided I would just use white-out, something I already had, and simply make it current by writing in the dates for the current year.
This has worked splendidly.
I’m the only one using this planner, and it doesn’t bother me that I’ve repurposed it.
I was hoping to purchase a new one this year, but there is no need to because this planner is begging to be used!
I see little things like this to be of good stewardship. I consider little things like this…to honor the Lord, because I’m careful not to over spend out of what the Lord has provided me.
How to Repurpose

Repurposing a planner to make it a current year is quite simple and doesn’t take too terribly long.
All you’ll need to do is white out all the dates and holidays.
I prefer more polished look with white out and I already had white out on hand. But if you’re on a tight budget and cannot afford white out, you could always just scribble out the dates/holidays. Again, (typically) no one will see this but you. And if they do, who cares.
I took the approach of doing all the white out first, then going back to write in dates/holidays. More of a streamlined process.
If this seems too daunting initially, I would recommend that you span this over a week, or weekend; and spend little pockets of time doing these tasks. You’ll be able to complete in no time!

Little homemaking tasks like this go a long way!
Look for more opportunities in your home, to repurpose something you already own!
All these little acts of resourcefulness will add so much money back into your family budget!
This is faithfully stewarding what the Lord has provided.
